With the official launch of Umbraco 17, the ecosystem has taken another big step forward. Built on .NET 10, this Long-Term Support (LTS) release isn’t just about keeping up with the latest version numbers, it’s about stability, performance, and a refined backoffice experience.
Why the Move to Umbraco 17 Matters
Since Umbraco 14, the shift toward modern web components in the backoffice has changed how we build extensions. Umbraco 17 is a key milestone in this evolution by offering long term support until Q4 2028.
.NET 10 Support
Developers can expect better memory handling and faster JIT compilation. Security and compliance teams will be pleased with Microsoft’s long term support and security patches.
Modern Backoffice
Users and developers alike coming from Version 13 will enjoy a shiny new backoffice.
Important - There’s now a Dark theme!
LTS to LTS Upgrade Path
Umbraco support direct upgrades from one LTS version to the next.
Developers should expect all migrations introduced between the two LTS releases to be applied automatically.
Important - Developers will still need to review the upgrade specific documentation for any breaking changes or manual steps required that may be specific to their implementation and use of Umbraco.
Keeping busy
I’ve been working through my codebases to ensure they are ready for this LTS version.
I’m delighted to share that all packages have been updated and are fully compatible with Umbraco 17 🥳
